Blue Raven Studios

The Artist

Peter Berryman was born in New York City and raised in Arizona. He earned his art degree at the University of Arizona in 1967 and worked for two years as an apprentice in a Los Angeles bronze foundry. He also travelled extensively in Europe and Asia, studying art and spirituality.

Peter settled in Australia, where he worked as the Art Director of the Queensland Museum (in Brisbane). He also presented his work in one-man shows, and he made exhibits and life-size sculptures for Dream World, Sea World, and Sydney's Taronga Zoo.

After returning to the States in the 1980s, he worked in Seattle and San Francisco as a sculptor and builder. Drawn back to the desert and nature of Arizona, he bought ranch land in the Sonoran Desert near Tucson. There Peter and his wife Susan created Blue Raven Studios, an "off the grid" straw bale house and studio. Since then the Berrymans have lived and worked in Idaho, New Hampshire, and Florida.
